We are NHS Reservists. We are ready to step up.

NHS Reservists are here to support organisations across Herefordshire and Worcestershire - working flexibly to provide additional resource during particularly busy periods.

From students to retired workers, Reservists have a range of backgrounds and bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to their work - and are able to provide much needed help across a range of disciplines.

The NHS Reservists programme is designed to support the NHS in times of need by creating a flexible, paid workforce—with recruitment targeted towards those who are passionate about patient care, but who may not otherwise have considered a role within the NHS.

NHS Reservists are expected to commit a minimum of 30 days per year to working with the NHS, though they can work more if they are interested in doing so (and if a suitable role within a host organisation is available).

What types of roles might Reservists work in?

There is no set limit to the types of roles Reservists can work in—this very much depends on their individual experience and skillset, with some Reservists expected to possess some level of clinical experience (for instance, retired NHS workers looking to “keep a hand in,” or those considering a return after leaving the health service previously).

In other Reservist programmes operating nationally, examples of work assigned to beginner Reservists has included:

  • Covid-19 and flu vaccinations
  • Hospital ward administrative support
  • Basic patient feeding and hydration
  • Ward clerking
  • Stewarding
  • Replenishing linens and protective equipment
  • Receiving supplies to wards and clinics

We're also working closely with colleagues across our partner organisations to channel suitable candidates into training programmes, allowing the Reservist programme to be a springboard for potential talent into long-term NHS careers.

NHS Reservists can be a fantastic resource to help support your organisation—providing additional staffing quickly, and without the need for a long-term commitment.
