Bowel Cancer Awareness Month- April 2026

NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire is reminding people who are sent bowel cancer testing kits to use and return them as part of Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

We want everyone who has been sent been sent an NHS bowel cancer screening kit to complete the test. That’s because when bowel cancer is caught early, people are nine times more likely to survive.

The test is simple to complete and can be done in the privacy of your own bathroom. Anyone aged 50 or over, who lives in England and is registered with a GP practice, will be sent a test in the post automatically, every two years.

Campaing Overview: We are targetting those who are elligible for a screening kit, emphasising the importance of doing the test. The tag line is 'Put it by the loo. Don’t put it off.

The screening kits are sent to those most at risk- but it is important to remember that everyone should be vigilant for the signs of Bowel Cancer. That's why we are also offering  general 'awareness element' regarding common symptoms that everyone should look out  for.

If you are bleeding from your bottom, have blood in your poo, or there’s a notable change in the frequency of your bowel movements it could be a sign of bowel cancer. Other symptoms include losing weight or feeling tired a lot and not being sure why or feeling a pain in your tummy. If you are experiencing any of these, regardless of age, then seek medical help immediately.

Below is a 3 static socials carousel for social media available to download. You can use all 3 at once in sequence, or use them as stand alone  statics.

Cancer Awareness- March 2026

More than 1100 people in Herefordshire and Worcestershire are living with a Prostate cancer diagnosis. In fact, it’s the most common cancer in men, with around 1 in 8 developing it during their lifetime. That’s why it’s important to be aware of the signs and symptoms, especially as you get older.

The are three key factors that can determine a higher risk of prostate cancer. They are age, ethnicity, and family history.

You are more likely to be at risk if you are over the age of 50. Black men are twice as likely to develop prostate cancer, meaning that 1 in 4 will be affected by it in their lifetime. They are often diagnosed at a later stage, too. Men with a family history of the disease, such as a father or brother who has had prostate cancer, are also at greater risk.

Prostate cancer doesn’t always cause obvious symptoms in the early stages. But some changes to look out for include: needing to pass urine more often, especially at night, difficulty starting to urinate, or a weak flow.

Campaign overview:  This campaign runs for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and the focus for NHS HW is 3 key factors for a higher risk. They are age, ethnicity and family history. A suite of HW specific social media assets are available to download below. They include bespoke statics and video message cutdowns from Consultant Urologist Christian Nayar.

Cancer Barriers

Below are a range of social media assets from the Cancer Barriers Campaign- an ongoing programme urging people to seek medical advice if 'something doesn't seem right'. The premise is that people know their own bodies, so they shouldn't carry the worry of cancer with them.
