Cancer Barriers (and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October 2025)
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The campaign has two key strands: 1) to promote awareness of the possible symptoms of Breast Cancer. 2) To impress upon women the importance of booking in and/or attending breast screenings.
We have added several social media assets for Breast Cancer Awareness Month to this page for the Month of October, which runs alongside the wider, winter long Cancer Barriers Campaign. Full details of the Cancer Barriers Campaign are below, along with downloadable comms materials.
Cancer Barriers Campaign overview: This is an ongoing campaign encouraging people to engage with the health services if there is something that doesn't feel right to them. Rather than specific cancer campaigns that raise awareness of particular symptoms, Cancer Barriers targets people in their 40s and over to seek medical help if they aren't feeling themselves. The aim of the campaign is to test for pontential cancers, so that it can be either ruled out as a possibility, or treated as early as possible if diagnosed.
The key message of this Cancer Barriers Campaign is 'if something isn't right, don't carry the weight of cancer with you. A test can put your mind at rest. Until you find out, you can't rule it out'. It places an onus on the individual to know their own body, trust their intutition, and feel comfortable and confident in coming forward and speaking to a healthcare professional about possible concerns.
