Co Lab Innovation Hub Banner

We have a range of Interesting Technology on display around the CO-LAB

These are usually loaned short-term by different companies to showcase what is possible with modern tools

They are not specifically endorsed or recommended by the ICS, but you are welcome to come and try them to see the potential of innovations to improve the lives of staff and residents

We are thrilled to be working in partnership with Sensiks by show-casing their flagship product, the Sensory Reality Pod (SRP) to staff and patients in our Co-Lab. This pod is a multi-sensory reality cabinet, which is equipped with infra-red heat, wind, airflow and scent to fully immerse users in a 5D virtual reality experience.

“Audio-visual experiences are synchronised with scent, temperature, air flow, tremble, taste and light frequencies. By stimulating all senses simultaneously and connecting them to a harmonious integral experience your brain will be activated on multiple points. It makes you feel that you really are in the experience.”

Sensory reality pods can be used across various settings in order to reduce stress, induce euphoria, process memories and improve patients’ quality of life by offering experiences that promote joy, connection and play.

Placing this digital innovation device in a health and care setting means that our industry partner can gather valuable context-specific feedback and increase awareness among their target cohort.

H4D facilitates access to healthcare with “clinical telemedicine” where patients are guided remotely by their clinician in the Consult Station®. This free-standing pod replicates a face-to-face consultation in primary care, occupational health, and general health promotion.

This certified Class IIA medical device is fully equipped with high-definition AV equipment, and contains a range of hospital grade sensors and devices. There are two ways to use the Consult Station ® - the autonomous Self-Checkup mode in order to examine blood pressure, heart rate and blood oxygen levels and gain printed health reports. Alternatively, patients can choose the TeleConsult option where they use the medical devices and multiple sensors (eg. stethoscope, otoscope and skin camera) with a clinician in the TeleConsult mode to examine, diagnose and receive printed prescriptions.

By showcasing this latest digital innovation and gathering data from users, we are connecting new industry partners with health and care.

The Healthy Minds VR Headset is currently being trialled by staff in Kidderminster Hospital in order to promote patient relaxation and stress reduction. This VR Headset is used as medical software and combines neuroscience, VR and medical hypnosis to reduce pain and anxiety across all patient groups. The patient watched 3D imagery and listens to soothing music, which has been specifically created by medical experts in the area of pain management. Guided imagery and breathing techniques are also used to induce a state of medical hypnosis. The aim of the Healthy Minds VR Headset is to reduce the usage of medication, where hypnosis has been shown to be just as effective.

“It was simply amazing to observe. This ended up being an extremely positive experience for the child, her parents, and for the staff! This is particularly important for a child who could be about to start a cancer journey which comes with so many distressing procedures.”

Children and Young People Oncology Nurse Specialist, Kidderminster Hospital (Worcestershire)

Through our partnership, it is also being piloted by play specialists in the Children’s Clinic in Worcestershire Royal Hospital and is receiving positive feedback, with staff reporting relaxation of patients, more efficient facilitation of the medical procedure and improved patient/staff relationship.

This type of real-life piloting across patients, departments and applications means that our industry partners can utilise the feedback from staff and users, in order to constantly improve their digital innovation across health and care settings.

We're always looking for new technology to demonstrate the art of the possible to people...
Please contact us if you'd like to temporarily host your innovation with us.

Previous technology has included:

AV1 | No Isolation

Provided to us by Vodafone, this loneliness robot acts as an "Avatar" for children who are in hospital, so they can carry on with their education and see their school friends.

The robot can be physically placed on their desk at school (or at a birthday, or other event), whilst the child watches from their tablet in the hospital.

The child can remotely move the head to look at different things, zoom in, talk, hear, make the robot display different facial expressions and raise their virtual hand.
