The Pharmacy Faculty is here to help develop our workforce of the future.

We include all sectors of pharmacy in our faculty membership, including; Hospital, GP Practice, Prison and Community (high Street)  Pharmacies. Our aim is to support the development of all pharmacy staff in all environments across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

If you are working in H&W already, we want to give you the opportunity to develop your career as widely as you want to. If you are not working in H&W, then we want to make our ICS as attractive as possible (o top of the amazing countryside and outdoor activities) so you can enjoy working in a variety of working environments and balance this with your life outside of work.

We work with local universities and colleges to offer further training, and provide virtual courses as well. We also link in with our regional and national  pharmacy colleagues to make the most of learning opportunities and help Herefordshire and Worcestershire at the forefront of service development, while promoting a collaberative approach to our work.

Tony Mcconkey 1.jpgWelcome to the Pharmacy Faculty Website. I am Tony McConkey, Clinical Director, Pharmacy & Medicines Optimisation at Wye Valley NHS Trust. I also have the privilege of being the Chair of the Pharmacy Faculty for Herefordshire and Worcestershire ICS. Having worked in hospital, community and supporting GP practice over a 30 years I have developed a passion to link pharmacy practice across in all sectors. I know we can only achieve this in Herefordshire and Worcestershire if we have a motivated and well trained pharmacy team. Through collaboration of all our pharmacy leads and education providers across Herefordshire & Worcestershire; and the rest of the Midlands, our Faculty aim is to create the environment where pharmacy staff (Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Assistants) can develop their career the way they want and be able to do this within our progressive and friendly two counties. Link that to the beauty of the two shires backdrop, what is there not to like.

Interactive and Immersive Pharmacy Careers 360 Videos launch on World Pharmacists’ Day

The NHS England Technology Enhanced Learning team has developed ‘Pharmacy: A Day in the Life’ the first interactive and immersive series of pharmacy VR360 career videos for 14-to-18-year-old learners. The videos provide an opportunity to learn about different careers options and pathways by allowing an inside view of the day to day working world of pharmacy teams.

The videos have been developed with support from professionals at the Simulation Centre Canterbury Christ Church University, Greenlight Pharmacy (London, Euston), Barts Health NHS Trust Healthcare Horizons team, Inspiring Futures and East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.

The interactive videos are launching on World Pharmacists’ Day (Monday 25 September 2023) and feature scenarios based on real life, including pharmacy roles within the community, a hospital, and a GP setting.

The videos have been tested by students from UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, a school dedicated to educating young people in Computing, Sport Science, Health & Social Sciences, and are accessible via an internet browser and to download on a VR headset or mobile phone.
